Tumbling Dice History

“Tumbling Dice” was formed by guitarist Sean Crum, and bassist Mark Bluhm in the mid 90’s, and founded on the premise of being a good time dance band that specialized in classic rock while allowing enough space for creative interpretations, which any good musicians needs for personal satisfaction. The name “Tumbling Dice”, (meaning dice that are currently in the process of tumbling), was brought to the band by Mark back in 1996. According to Mark, it stems from the ancient Chinese proverb “Tumbling dice grows no moss.”…..Hmmmm…..Stationary dice may also have trouble growing moss, but who’s arguing. This all may or may not be true, we’re not sure. Feel free to email Mark on this matter. I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to discuss this in detail.

A quick side-thought –Have you ever noticed that there are no positive words that rhyme with tumble? Words such as stumble, bumble, fumble, crumble, and even mumble all have negative connotations. Not quite sure what any of that means, but please don’t use this as criteria for deciding on whether or not to come see us play. We’re good. We promise.

All right, enough nonsense, back to our riveting bio. Tim Borato, an old friend of  Sean and Mark who had been their drummer in various bands dating back to the 70’s, (WOW, just how old are these guys anyway?), joined the band sometime in 1997. The first singer of the band was John Salvia, who also provided rhythm guitar, keyboards, and mouth organ to the instrumental line-up. Ross Markowski stepped in behind the drums for Tim until Tim returned in 1999. After John left the band in 2001, Dan Decarlo, the man of many voices, (some may even call him a male version of Sybil-remember that movie?), joined the band as lead vocalist, and keyboardist. Finally, in the spring of 2003, our current drummer, Mike Kovacs, joined the band bringing an end to this very exciting band biography.

Lately we have been dropping in a few more modern tunes to our previously exclusive classic rock repertoire. We now feature songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and now the 2000’s so we can truly say we are a band for all ages. Hope to see you at our next gig.
